It’s been around for a few years now, and is the big dog in the micro-blogging world. It’s the cornerstone of Social Media right now: it’s super quick to post, readily accessible, it lends itself to everyone’s penchant for instant gratification, (ok, vanity) and frankly…it’s entirely addictive. For such a small format, you can do a lot with it.
If you are a business, it can be used to convey your key messages, bolster marketing and brand awareness. It is a great way to interact with customers, and is changing the game of customer service.
Twitter is also a great networking arena. Never before has there been one place to openly connect with people. It’s the 24-hour global cocktail party. People are on Twitter to actively engage with others, and want to engage with you as much as you want to engage with them.
It’s a wealth of information sources also. You can use it as a streaming news source that is not unlike an RSS reader. Publications, journalists, bloggers are all on Twitter not just posting, but breaking news stories on Twitter.
"Every day, millions of people use Twitter to create, discover and share ideas with others. Now, people are turning to Twitter as an effective way to reach out to businesses, too. From local stores to big brands, and from brick-and-mortar to internet-based or service sector, people are finding great value in the connections they make with businesses on Twitter".
